Military veterans possess many unique skills and experiences that make them highly qualified candidates for a number of opportunities with FirstEnergy. Recognized as a Military-Friendly Employer by GI Jobs Magazine for nine years, we deploy recruiting strategies that target military-trained personnel for open positions across the organization. For example, we partner with veteran-focused digital media partners such as Victory Media to execute targeted outreach campaigns via social media aimed at the Veteran population, and with the Center for Energy Workforce Development’s Troops to Energy Jobs campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting the training, hiring and retention of the veteran workforce into key positions within the electric utility industry.
In 2018, nearly 9% of our external hires were military veterans. FirstEnergy proudly employs more than 1,600 veterans across our workforce today.
